Help support Jaime and her sons after hurricane Helene
Donation protected
I am trying to raise as much money as I possibly can for my friend of over 20 years, Jaime Lynne, and her two young sons, Niko ( 6-years-old) and Ari (2-years-old). Jaime, and her boys live in Brevard, North Carolina, and have recently become Hurricane Helene survivors, thankfully, yet were not left unaffected.
When I first heard of the state of emergency, and hurricane destruction in Jaime's area, I tried reaching out, but due to power, and internet outages, I did not hear from her for several days. This is the original response from Jaime to me on 10/2/2024, via facebook:
"We ARE okay....barely. Ari and I accidentally drove into 8 feet of flood water in the dark, and very nearly died. We had to climb out the window with water rushing in, and I swam for my life holding him. Juuuuuuuuusst made it to some blackberry briars and flimsy branches. Swift water rescue arrived shortly thereafter. Both of us were hospitalized for hypothermia; I for water inhalation. (No matter how many times I went under, I kept him up! It was the only thing I was focused on.) My car and phone are a total loss--as such, my only source of income. I am petrified and the future is bleak. I am, of course, infinitely grateful for our lives and the people who participated in our rescue. Had I had both kids with me--which was almost the case--this story might have ended differently."
While I was incredibly happy to hear from Jaime, and know that the boys, and her were safe, I also immediately felt for her, and understood her grief, and anxious outlook.
Jaime is a single mom of two, disabled with a degenerative skeletal and neurological diagnoses, still waiting for her disability claim to be processed, and is now left without a car. Her insurance plan, like most, did not include comprehensive coverage, which protects against damage to a vehicle caused by non-collision events. Her car, used not only for DoorDash as her main source of income, but also was her only transportation for getting her oldest to, and from school, her way of getting to her neurologist, physical therapy, spine doctor, pain management therapy, as well as the only mode to get her, or her boys generally anywhere that they needed to go, or be.
While Jaime never asked for handouts, and did everything within her abilities to provide for her family, on her own, she is in need of help now. I ask from anyone who is willing and able, to please give what you can to this loving mother, and family of three.
