Help support Jacky’s road to recovery

Saturday, July 1 started out as every other Fourth of July holiday weekend at Pettigrew Hill. A birthday party, music, 4 wheelers, side-by-side’s, swimming, noodling, fishing, trotlines, a catfish fry planned for the evening, and the newest addition to Pettigrew Hill, the water slide. For the last few years, Jacky Pettigrew has slowly transformed his land into an oasis of sorts for his friends and family, but mainly for his grandkids! It started with a pond to fish and noodle in. Then came the floating dock. The kids loved to fish, and of course jump off of the dock and swim. Then a slide was added to the dock, which was an ever bigger hit, and then a basketball goal! It just kept getting better! Lastly, of the past couple years, a 75ft slide, was constructed down the hill, and into the pond! It was amazing! I don't know how many people have gotten to try it out, but I know if they went once, they were definitely going again! Unfortunately, like everything in life, one wrong move, and things can change forever, like it did for Jacky. He is currently in ICU with a C6-C7 spinal injury because of the way he entered the water.... Jacky’s injuries have been been classified as "Asia A" on the Spinal Cord Injury Scale. 89% of injuries that are classified in the first week of injury as "ASIA A" will remain complete. Only 3% to 6% of those whose injuries improve to "motor incomplete" will gain enough strength to assist with ambulation. Jacky is currently looking at over a week in Trauma ICU, a week or two in next level floor care, and then a couple of weeks to months in inpatient rehab in OKC, or possibly a different state depending on the level of care he needs at the time. Now, imagine enjoying your family and friends one moment, taking off down a slide, and the next moment waking up after an ambulance ride, a helicopter ride, and a 5 hour surgery, only to be told that you will never walk again. Would everything be in order? Would your kids be able to drive 2 hours, multiple times a week to come and care for you in the hospital with gas prices the way they are? What about your truck payment, and your mortgage? What if you're self-employed? How will everything get paid if you can't work? Will your kids be able to drop everything they have going, and take care of everything you have going? They will try, because they love you and it automatically falls to them. However, what if your kids are married, and have 3 kids of their own, with a baby on the way, like Jacky's oldest daughter, Jade? Would you hope that someone would help her however they could? As we pray for a miracle, we are asking for your help in this extremely difficult time. Expenses, such as hospital bills, rehabilitation, recovery, and possibly in home care are going to pile up. All of that is on top of normal expenses... We understand that everyone has their own problems, and their own families to care for, but if there is anything you can do to help, it would mean the world to Jacky, and Jade, and our family...
