Hi - My name is Aiesha Francis. Our family is fundraising to afford a wheelchair-accessible van that will allow our matriarch (my mother-in-law), Jackie, to re-join family and community activities.
For over 2 decades, Jackie’s medical issues have limited her mobility. Most recently, diabetes has resulted in amputations and a motorized wheelchair, making it difficult to attend events, go to church, bible study or visit family without it becoming a major ask for her son, Joe. While her son and daughter-in-law visit often and help Jackie get to necessary medical appointments, they don’t have wheelchair-accessible vehicles, so must rely on other resources, which are not always available when needed.
Jackie was once an extremely active member of her community and church. With limited mobility, she has become increasingly isolated.
Here’s what we know…
• Accessible vehicles, whether new or pre-owned, range $15-50,000
• Medicare/Health Insurance does not cover accessible vehicles
• Wheelchair-accessible paratransit in Concord, NC is RARE and must be scheduled far in advance (no spontaneous trips)
• Uber wheelchair accessible vehicles is an expensive weekly option
• Other N.C. cities offer favorable public transportation options, but moving would remove Jackie from her medical specialists and family
Thank YOU in advance. No amount is too small. God bless you for considering contributing to Jackie's increased mobility & happiness!!
