A group of local Italian-Americans have been working for over a year to plan the design, creation and installation of a granite monument to honor the legacy of Italian immigrants who came here in the early 1900s. We have received unanimous approval from the Portland Public Arts Committee, Portland City Council, and Portland Water District Board of Trustees for a 10-foot granite monument to be installed on the corner of Fore and India Streets in the "Little Italy" section of Portland, Maine.
We hope to commission renowned sculptor, Giuliano Cecchinelli, to carve a granite monument that will stand as a symbol of the courage, hard work, and enduring spirit of those who came before us. The funds raised will go directly toward commissioning the artist, shipping the finished piece to Portland, and ensuring its installation at the chosen site. Our hope is to reach our goal within the month so the sculpting can begin and perhaps have it completed by August of 2026, the one hundred and first St Peter's Church Italian Bazaar.
By supporting this fundraiser, you'll help us honor the past and inspire future generations to remember the contributions and sacrifices of Portland's Italian immigrants. Every contribution brings us closer to making this vision a reality.
