My name is Cormac Comerford, and I am an Irish Alpine Ski Racer preparing to compete at the Milano–Cortina Winter Olympic Games next month. I am aiming to represent Ireland in all four alpine disciplines, becoming the first Irish male athlete to do so.
Alpine skiing is the fastest self-propelled sport in the world and competing at the highest level requires a significant personal investment, particularly in equipment. Racing across all four disciplines demands multiple setups and, above all, the highest safety standards.
Following recent tragedies in the sport, the International Ski Federation (FIS) has introduced stricter safety regulations to better protect athletes. These measures are essential, but they also come with increased costs that athletes must fund themselves.
For the upcoming competitions, I need to invest in the following mandatory safety equipment:
• Helmets (x2) – €750
• Cut-proof leggings – €500
• Airbag system – €1,500
• Arm guards – €250
Total required: €3,000
Any support big or small would be hugely appreciated and will directly contribute to my ability to compete safely on the Olympic stage and continue representing Ireland at the highest level.
