Help support Indigo on her treatment journey!
There are not many of us who will claim that the past 15 months have been easy. Living through a global pandemic has taken a toll on each of us in its own way, but all of us in some way. But the last year for the Carducci/Fraser family has been particularly trying, even by 2020 standards.
Just before Christmas of 2020, Paul’s mother, Janet Carducci passed away from cancer. Shortly after her passing, Leilani’s dad, Mark Fraser was also diagnosed with cancer. After a valiant fight at home with his family, Mark also lost his battle in early May of 2021.
Just three short weeks later, Indigo (11 years old) received her own cancer diagnosis, Ewing Sarcoma, one of the two types of bone cancer typically found in children. Her treatment plan should take just short of a year.
Leilani will be taking a leave of absence from the BCLT for a year. Although her hope after scaling back her hours to care for her father was to be back to work and helping to make a difference in our community by June, with Indigo’s diagnosis she needs to continue to focus on being a caregiver and mom more than ever. Paul will be continuing to work at the butcher counter of the Bolinas Market, but traveling back and forth to San Francisco to join Indigo and Leilani during Indigo’s treatment admissions.
The best way that we can support Indigo on her road to remission is by ensuring her parents can focus on her physical health and mental well being without the distraction of financial insecurity.
Our hope is to ensure that the regular costs of supporting a household, and the additional costs needed to tackle cancer can be covered forthe full year of scheduled treatment.
Indigo, Leilani, and Paul need our love and support now more than ever. With a team of medical professionals, family, and friends to hold them up, we know that Leilani and Paul can provide Indigo with the undivided love and strength she will need over the coming year. This family has endured a lot this past year, but they remain positive and ask that other people do the same. Indigo has asked that friends and family keep things light and fun when interacting with her. She is still Indigo -the beautiful, loving, inquisitive, creative little being she has always been.
It will take a village to do this, and we know that Indigo’s village is exceptional, just like she is. We cannot wait for Indigo to be back on the stage acting and dancing, running around with friends, walking her dog Mango through town, and filling all of our lives with her general enthusiasm and contagious love of life.
With gratitude,
Team Indigo
