Help Support Immanuel Oloya!

Donation protected
While staying in a group home, then 15-year-old Immanuel Oloya was the victim of police brutality when a Pima County Sheriff's Department Deputy, Manuel Van Santen, wrestled him to the ground. Immanuel (a quadruple amputee) posed NO threat to the officer but was still arrested and charged with disorderly conduct. While the Pima County Attorney's office ultimately dropped the charges because the video of this abuse of power went viral, Immanuel is still coming out the other side of all of this.

It has been widely reported that Immanuel has no family, however, nothing could be further from the truth. After the incident went viral, Immanuel  has been returned to his loving family, including his mother, step-father, and his brothers and sisters who have been living in Tucson for over a decade.

Black Lives Matter - Tucson is organizing this fundraiser (with permission from his family) in an effort to recenter this conversation on this incredibly brave young man. Below are Immanuel's immediate needs that we can all support him with as he resettles into his life with his family and continues to plan for the future:

  1.  A junior in high school, Immanuel aspires to go to college and study Forensic Science.  However, he is in need of a laptop so he can continue his studies and prepare for his educational goals. The estimated costs for the HP laptop + Microsoft Office software + 3 years of warranty protection will be about $1800.
2. Immanuel's specialized motorized wheelchair was damaged during his stay at his group home. The estimated repairs out of pocket are $5,200.
3. Should we go beyond our fundraising goals for items 1 & 2, we will aim to create an educational fund to support Immanuel with pursuing his Bachelor's Degree.

Immanuel wants everyone to know that he is happy to be back with his family, that he is proud that he called out the injustice of what this officer did to him, and that he hopes his story will inspire other kids to advocate for themselves. This holiday season, let's  show-up Tucson and prove that #blacklivesmatter to us and support Immanuel!
