Help support Hellen's grandchildren in Uganda
Donation protected
We have set up a fundraiser to support the grandchildren of our very loved research assistant in Uganda, Hellen Biroch who sadly died last month, aged 78 in Budongo, Westen Uganda. Hellen was a committed and valued member of her local community and our research team, having helped establish research in the region in 2009 to study early childhood development. Hellen showed great strength and resilience, living independently and working full time into her late 70s while supporting her family, after her son died, leaving 8 grandchildren
Now Hellen has sadly gone, we want to offer some support to Hellen's family for their education and livelihoods.
Funds will go directly to cover school fees for her grandchildren, prioritising Mugisa and Betty, who lived with Hellen and looked after her. This will enable them to complete their current school grades (£600). To help set the family up with sustainable income, we would also like to assist with start-up of a family retail business to help them set up a local shop, covering their first 6 months of stock, rent and supplies (£650). This plan was suggested by the family as providing a sustainable means of family income.
We would be very grateful for your support! If you are interested in supporting the education of another of Hellen's grandchild, please contact Zanna Clay
