My sister, Heather Elia and her family recently got the unexpected and heartbreaking news that she has metastatic cancer. She is currently undergoing investigations to determine the type of cancer which will direct treatment options. She is already experiencing symptoms of fatigue and difficulty sleeping which is making some of the day-to-day tasks more difficult. She has been told to not return to work to focus her energy on her future treatments and spend time with her family.
If you know Heather, you know she has a heart of gold and is the first to jump into action when others need it. You may then also know that she is fiercely independent and has difficulty asking for help. These funds would go towards hiring a house cleaner twice a week, other household chores/yardwork and medical expenses. Assistance with these things would be so helpful for her and would be a great way to unload some of the day-to-day work that needs to be done. This way she can spend her energy where it matters most, with Harrison and her children, Nicole and baby Paul.
On behand of Heather, Harrison and the entire Greene and Elia families, I want to thank you for your outpouring of love, support and prayers. We want to extend our gratitude for your generosity. Your kindness does not go unnoticed!
Much love,
Kali Greene, sister
**UPDATE**
Thank you so much for all of your donations and support for my dear sister, Heather and her family. A lot has happened over the last six weeks and we wanted to provide an update to you all.
Heather was admitted at a hospital in Halifax to undergo investigations and multiple surgeries in attempts to find where her cancer originated. Most likely her cancer started in her lung. The doctors have concluded that she has a rare form of adenocarcinoma and it is stage 4. Her largest tumour is in her chest surrounding vital organs such as her heart and lungs with tumour metastasis in her neck lymph nodes and multiple bones.
Heather has undergone radiation treatment and will be starting chemotherapy next week. Heather is recovering from her surgeries but is having some fatigue related to the radiation treatment.
Heather doesn’t qualify for short term disability due to recently returning from maternity leave. She has applied for long term disability but this won’t be in effect for a few more months. Any continued financial support would be greatly welcomed and appreciated.
Heather is so happy to be home surrounded by her family and especially her kids. She is living each day to its fullest and spending lots of time outdoors in nature.
Thank you again for all of the outpouring of love and support we have received. It touches our hearts deeply ❤️
Sincerely,
Kali Greene, Heathers sister
