As some of you may know we have had a gentleman onsite that has had his world turned upside down by cancer at only 30 years old. This is a very big hit to the heart for him and we would like to share his story.

He had a little pain in his calf months ago, opted to see a physiotherapist which offered little relief and disregarded it as a niggling muscle strain to his gastrocnemius. This ruled out blood clotting and advised dry needling, lymphatic drainage and massage as treatment with stretches at home. After persisting tightness in his leg, his fiancé had enough and booked him in for a check-up. He was referred to complete an ultrasound/MRI where it was found he had a tumour inside his calf muscle and underwent additional testing/scans followed by day surgery to collect a biopsy.

Two and a half weeks later he shared some very heavy news to the team. After further scans, tests and biopsies it was confirmed to be the worst. They found a cancerous T3 (102mm x 51mm x 54mm) high grade soft tissue sarcoma in his calf.

The final diagnosis after two months of extensive pathology was High Grade Sarcoma NOS, with his treatment plan being 5 weeks of a 6MV radiation dose, followed by a cool down period and major surgery at a cost of well over $50k. After enduring this he will have to have most of his calf muscle removed before starting his rehab journey.

Amputation was offered but both parties couldn’t agree, the good news is that it was found early and is currently localised to the area and has not metastasised or spread to the lymph nodes.

Devastatingly, due to the unique type of this cancer, he has been given a roughly 60% survival rate over the next 5 years, all the while still having the possibility of the cancer spreading to lungs and soft tissue as it has done in other patients in the past.

At such a young age and with a huge journey ahead of him, we would love to be able to show Haydn our support and love for him in this time. Being able to provide Haydn some financial relief will enable him (and his fiancé) to be able to focus on having the strength to fight this huge battle ahead of him.

All proceeds will go to this gentleman’s medical expenses and his family. We all know how hard life is these days without having this thrown at yourself at the age of 30.
