Hi everyone, this is Caitlin Gevers, Gus's daughter.
* I didn't know what to set the goal to. I know $10,000 seems like a lot and it is, but in reality, the costs will be more than that. Anything helps but please do not feel bad if you cannot donate a large amount *
On March 31st, 2022, my dad was on a run trying to clear his mind while vacationing in Honolulu, HI. He was supposed to finalize an offer on his dream home yesterday that they found after months of looking. While on his run, he was ran over by a utility truck.
He will recover. He is going to be okay, although this recovery journey he is about to begin will be long and painful. However, he will be okay - he is still himself and is even trying to crack some jokes while in his current state.
However, since this took place in Hawaii, he is currently unable to travel home due to the extent of his injury. Because of this, he will need to stay in Hawaii, away from most of his family, loved ones, and me. Josette, his fiance, has had to book additional hotel rooms for the extra time so he will not be alone. They will both be unable to return to work for the foreseeable future. I do not want my dad to be alone while he is in the hospital recovering and undergoing surgery. Everyone that knows my dad knows that he will do everything in his power to not "be a burden" to others. However, he is going to need help, and his family is going to need help. Because of this horrible accident, my dad and Josette had to back out of purchasing their dream home simply because this is going to be tremendously hard on them financially.
The proceeds raised in this fundraiser will go
- Supporting Josette in paying for accommodations so that she can stay by his side until he is well enough to be transferred to California - this is the most important thing right now. He needs support and needs his one of us with him.
- Medical bills, which will be substantial. The fact they needed to back out of their home purchase says enough..
- Support for Josette during this difficult time as they are a two-income household and they will both be out of work for quite some time.

AS OF NOW I RESPECTFULLY ASK THAT NO ONE CONTACT MY DAD WHILE HE IS IN THE FIRST TWO DAYS OF RECOVERY. He will appreciate and need this support when the time comes but right now he is very out of it and I do not want to add to his stress. I know how hard it is - everyone that has ever met my dad loves him. I just want him to have a few days to recover and relax.
