If you know Georgia Sewell — Georgie — you have been charmed by her sideway smiles, witty charm and ability to get what she wants. This tiny sparkly dancer has a huge spirit, a joyful personality, and commands attention in every room she enters. Over the past week, this brave kid and her family have faced something no family ever expects.
Georgie has been battling a sudden staph infection that led to a devastating case of bacterial meningitis. The infection caused sepsis and, without rapid medical intervention-she was rushed by ambulance, she may not have survived. Doctors discovered infected tissue in her heart that broke loose and travelled to her brain. She suffered several small strokes and the potential long term damage to her brain is still being investigated. She is currently undergoing intensive treatment and has been flown to Edmonton for emergency open-heart surgery.
Her parents, Tracy and Jeremy, have been by her side every moment, while Georgie’s siblings, Luke and Phaolan, are staying in Winnipeg with grandparents- George and Donna, as the family navigates this crisis across two cities. As many of you know, when something like this happens, life doesn’t pause — and the emotional, physical, and financial strain quickly adds up.
Many friends and loved ones have reached out asking how they can help, sending well wishes and raising their “Fingers Up for Georgie.” Tracy and Jeremy are the kindest people who would do anything for those around them. They have not asked for anything but as their village, we know that support during moments like this can make a real difference. As their long term friend and “Auntie” I encourage you to donate what you can to support the Sewells.
How Your Support Will Help
Georgie will remain in Edmonton for at least another week while she recovers from surgery and receives critical care. When she returns home to Winnipeg, she will require IV antibiotics for a minimum of six weeks, and the long-term recovery path remains uncertain.
Funds raised will help the Sewell family with:
• Travel and extended stay costs in Edmonton
• Hospital parking and daily expenses while staying with Georgie
• Food, clothing, and essentials during this unexpected medical emergency
• Supporting Georgie’s recovery once she returns home
• A gesture of gratitude for the nurses, doctors, and medical teams who are working tirelessly to save and care for Georgie
• Creating a special celebration for Georgie — and her siblings Luke and Phaolan — when she is strong enough to mark this incredible fight and milestone
A Note from the Family
It is very important to Tracy and Jeremy to share that asking for help does not come naturally to them. They recognize there are many families facing difficult challenges, and they are grateful for any kindness sent their way — whether that is a donation, sharing this page, or simply keeping Georgie in your thoughts.
If you feel moved to help, your support will provide comfort, stability, and breathing room for this family as they focus on what matters most: Georgie’s healing.
Thank you for being part of Georgie’s village and for helping surround this incredible little fighter with love and support.
