This past month has turned my world upside down. Doctors recently discovered that I have two tumors — one in my ovary and one in my pancreas. While the ovarian tumor is still being evaluated, the pancreatic tumor has been confirmed as solid pseudopapillary neoplasm, a rare type of pancreatic cancer.

It has all happened so quickly: I had a biopsy on Friday, September 5th, got the results on Tuesday, September 9th, and by Thursday, September 11th, I was already sitting with a surgical team to plan next steps. My surgery is scheduled for September 23rd. In such a short time, I’ve had to process the reality of cancer and prepare for a major operation.

The plan is to remove 50–60% of my pancreas along with my entire spleen. The official stage of my cancer is still unknown, but my doctors are hopeful that surgery will remove all of it. Afterward, I’ll spend about a week in the hospital and will need home visits from nurses and physical therapists during recovery. Depending on the outcome, I may be out of work for a significant period of time.

As you can imagine, this sudden health crisis comes with overwhelming emotional and financial stress. Not being able to work makes it difficult to keep up with rent, bills, and daily expenses on top of medical costs.
