A message from the Classic Bike Racing Ireland family

This August, our chairman and dear friend Gavan Duffy suffered a devastating accident while competing at the Gedinne Classic Races in Belgium. What began as another weekend doing what he loves most—racing and supporting the sport—became a life-changing event for Gavan, his wife Tracy, and their two children.

Following the accident, Gavan spent several weeks in hospital in Belgium before being transferred to The Mater Hospital in Dublin, where he continued to receive treatment for extensive injuries. He is now back in Ireland and currently undergoing specialist rehabilitation at the National Rehabilitation Hospital.

Gavan’s injuries are life-changing, and he will face a future using a wheelchair. Despite everything, he continues to show immense courage, positivity, and determination as he works hard through his rehabilitation.

Who Gavan is to us

Anyone who knows Gavan knows that he is the heart and soul of Classic Bike Racing Ireland.

As chairman, he has given countless hours to promote and support the sport, keeping classic racing alive for riders and fans across Ireland and beyond. Whether he’s organising meetings, helping fellow racers, or encouraging newcomers, Gavan’s dedication, kindness, and good humour shine through in everything he does.

Why we’re asking for your help

As Gavan continues his rehabilitation, the family faces enormous challenges ahead. Their home will need major renovations to make it wheelchair-accessible so that the family can bring Gavan home where he belongs.

The financial and emotional strain of these changes is immense. Your donations will go directly toward helping Gavan and his family with:
