This is our daughter's story, our sister's story. This is our Eva.
Suddenly diagnosed with ALL (Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia) in May 2025, Eva's courage was tested in the worst possible way and we were all shaken to our core. LEUKEMIA is a word no one ever wants to hear, especially in regards to your child. Although it is the most common type of leukemia in kids and has the best path to recovery, an extensive chemotherapy treatment program is currently underway. The road to recovery for our young warrior and our family will be a long and arduous as this chemotherapy program will last for 2 years.
Eva has been staying at a hospital for the past week, as we, her family, have had to stay in a nearby hotel since we live to far away. We couldn't bring her home because the chances of her getting an infection were too high. So the bills have already started piling up. Today, we are moving into the Ronald McDonald house for 3 weeks, which although convenient, will incur costs for food and travel, adding to the already stressful situation. I, her mother, have taken an unpaid leave from my job in order to be here with her full time. Her father is travelling back and forth in order to maintain a certain income.
It goes without saying that this unexpected diagnosis has turned our little Eva's world upside down. She is missing her older brother Elijah and older sister Mariella very much, along with her 2 dogs, Coco and Daisy. She is also missing the end of her school year which is very upsetting to her. She is also our little Dancing Queen. Dance is her true passion in life. She will also be missing out on her PKS dance troop's end of year gala, BBQ and award ceremony.
Another passion of Eva's is helping others. She and her friend regularly volunteer with the Mini Movers, which helps younger children learn to love dance. This is her future goal in life: helping young people. Even though she is always helping others, right now she is struggling and NEEDS YOUR HELP.
Eva is hopeful and will bounce back better than ever and has already mentioned wanting to volunteer to help other kids in her situation at Marnie's Lounge in Sick Kids when she has recovered!
