My name is Debbie. With a heavy heart and deep sadness, we have to create a fundraiser for my son-in-law Dwayne Chase who is 52 years old. He is diagnosed with Stage 4 brain tumor - glioblastoma. Glioblastomas are the most aggressive type of cancer that begins within the brain.

I’m creating the Chase family fund for Dwayne who is a husband and great step dad, and fantastic son-in-law, uncle, and friend to many. The funds raised will be to help support the ongoing medical bills as well as his drop in income and to try to add any assists needed for their home for him to remain at home, i.e., bed lift, ramp, and anything else that will be recommended not only for his assist but to make it safe for him to be home.

Dwayne served and survived in the army for several years and was part of Desert Storm, as well as survived colo-rectal cancer in 2007 and now this. It is a very aggressive cancer that has left him with the loss of use of his left arm and left leg. He underwent surgery to remove as much of the tumor as possible but unfortunately the type of tumor is still growing and causing more weakness.

He first noticed dropping things from his left hand and Michelle noticed a problem with speech and left side of his face drooping. They went to the doctor and upon the result of the MRI found the Glioblastoma brain tumor. Of the Glioblastoma brain tumors there are several different types and awaiting full reports from the biopsy but we have been told it is very aggressive.

Currently our goal is to get him to the upcoming wedding of Michael and Mara their son and future daughter in law in Charlson S.C. on June 25th. Upon our return trip he is scheduled for 6 wks of radiation and chemo to try to slow the growth on this very aggressive tumor.

Dwayne has always been a hard working, go go go person, always willing to help anyone, anytime and now he and Michelle are in need of some help as this medically, emotional and financially upset in their 20+ years of marriage is the hardest thing they have ever had to go through. For him to hear he will no longer be able to work, and his life will be cut short, we want to try to offset some of the financial to try to give them some help not only emotionally but financially to enjoy what time they have together.

We as a family and with his friends are doing everything we can but the financial hardship is starting with medical items not covered, and the upcoming co-pays for chemo pills, and loss of a income other than short term disability, their lives will be in a financial hardship. He has always been a very positive attitude guy and he is trying to remain but it’s hard when you know there is no cure and his life will not go as long as we all expected a few weeks ago.
