Help Support Drew Mayo: A Lifetime of Service, Now in Need

Who is Drew?
Claude "Drew" Mayo has been a constant source of strength, wisdom, and craftsmanship in our neighborhood for decades. This proud Tennessee native and Vietnam Vet has built more than just structures throughout his life; he's built relationships, mentored, and created a legacy that has meant a lot to his friends and neighbors.
Known affectionately as "Doctor Drew-little" or "The Dog Father" for his unending love of all animals and more specifically our 4-legged family companions, Drew has been that reliable neighbor, friend, and father figure many of us have confided in over the years.
Why Drew Needs Our Help
The reality is stark but simple: his existing lung condition(s) and recently a mild heart attack have put him in a bad spot. This is making it exceedingly difficult for him to work in the trade he's excelled at for decades. The skilled hands that have built and fixed so much for others now need our support. Drew is facing challenges that his independent spirit and strong work ethic cannot overcome alone.
Drew has always been the one to help; he’s never the one to ask for help. His stubborn independence (which we all admire) has meant that while medical bills mount and his living situation changes, he mostly keeps his struggles private.
How You Can Help
We're aiming to raise $10,000 to help Drew with:
- Outstanding medical bills from his heart attack treatment, stents, and hospital stay
- Ongoing medications and oxygen therapy
- Improving his quality of life with money for groceries and bills
- Creating a small financial safety net as he manages his health
Every contribution, no matter the size, represents something Drew has given our community for years: care, consideration, and community support when it has mattered most.
Drew's Legacy
For those who know Drew, you've likely been on the receiving end of his sometimes grumpy, always snarky, Tennessee wisdom, or watched as he entertains neighborhood kids despite having none of his own, and ALWAYS has a pocket full of MilkBones to make friends with every dog possible. Drew's true community has become family. Now it's our turn to be there for him.
You might recognize him from several years ago at the pool table at Le Bon Temps Roule or more recently with a pocket full of dog treats through the entire Covid lockdown in front of the King Pin Bar and beyond.
A Message from Drew's Friends
"Drew would never ask for this himself. His stubborn pride and lifelong independence make it difficult for him to accept help, even when he needs it most. That's why we, his friends and community, are making this plea on his behalf. The man who has given so much deserves dignity and comfort."
Please share this campaign with your networks and consider giving what you can. Together, we can show Drew that the community he helped build hasn't forgotten him.
I’m asking for help because I cannot explain to all the puppies myself why it’s important. Thank you for your kindness and generosity. Anonymous donations encouraged.
