Dear Family, Friends and kind hearted strangers,

We are seeking support to help raise funds for Domenic Perri so that he is able to continue taking a trial drug medication for Leukaemia.

Domenic’s health battle began in November 2023 when he was diagnosed with ALL Leukaemia (Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia) which is a type of Blood cancer in which the bone marrow makes too much Lymphocytes which effects white blood cells and platelets in the body.

Since his diagnosis Domenic has undergone routine intensive and aggressive chemotherapy which he had for 7 months and this treatment finished in June 2024.

He then had scheduled check ups every 2 weeks at the hospital for blood & platelet infusions and bone marrow biopsies.

After a while Domenic was informed by his doctor that he was in remission.

However, whilst this was news to be celebrated, during testing it was also found that Domenic has Abnormal Chromosomes which is strongly linked to the development of his Leukaemia.

His Haematologist (Blood specialist) had informed him that he was unable to undergo a Bone Marrow transplant due to his heart condition and his defibrillator, meaning his heart would not be strong enough to withstand the procedure.

This news was devastating as this would have been the next step in his treatment.

Domenic’s last resort for treatment, encouraged by his Doctor, was to be put on a trial drug from America in the hopes that it would eradicate these stubborn chromosomes.

The total cost of the 12 month trial drug was $75,000. Domenic had to pay for 4 months worth of tablets, costing him $25,000 out of pocket. The pharmaceutical company was prepared to pay the remaining 8 months.

This would make Domenic the first Australian recipient to undergo this particular trial medication.

The Trial Drug commenced and he took it for a 12 month period. The process was 14 active tablets per month and taken every day for 2 weeks. The other 2 weeks were for body rest as side effects would make his day to day life exhausting and weak.

In May 2025 he completed the 12 month cycle of the drug and during this time test results had shown some improvement.

His Doctor had encouraged him to continue the medication and to begin another 12 month cycle as soon as possible, however this means he needs to pay another $25,000 for the 4 months.

Domenic has not been able to work since his Leukaemia diagnosis in 2023 and has had to make some life changing decisions, which to date, has made his financial situation difficult.

In July Domenic's Haematologist put him on a Chemo infusion which he will have once a month for the time being, with the hope that he will be able to begin his next trial medication cycle as soon as possible.

We would love to help Dad on his journey in the hopes that he will be fortunate to continue and have further positive results from this trial drug treatment. He is doing everything possible to stay positive and well despite all of the side effects and challenges he faces.

As a family we are supporting him so that he continues to fight this disease as he has so much to live for. He loves spending time with his family, his beautiful wife, children and their partners as well as his grandchildren.
