Dee is facing one of the most difficult and unexpected challenges of her life. She has recently been diagnosed with Stage 4 Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. The cancer involves large lymph nodes around her neck, a small lump on her right collarbone, and lymph nodes located between her heart and sternum. It has even begun spreading into the bone of her sternum, which classifies her condition as stage 4.

This is heavy. It’s scary. And yet if you know Dee, you already know that her energy still lights up every room she walks into. She is fun, loving, fiercely loyal, and always shows up for everyone in her life. She’s the friend who becomes everyone’s friend. The life of the party. The wise, spiritual guide of the group. The one with wild stories, a huge heart, and a contagious laugh.

Even now, in the midst of cancer treatment, she somehow still finds the breath to yell:

“DEEZ NUTS’ IN THE HOUSE!”

…at the most inappropriate times.

That is our Dee. Pure magic. Pure gold.

Her Treatment Plan

Dee’s medical journey will last approximately six months, with six rounds (12 sessions) of chemotherapy.

Every second Friday, she travels to Ottawa, over an hour each way, for full treatment days. These appointments include:

• Blood work and a follow-up with her hematologist

• About four hours of IV chemotherapy

• A long commute that becomes even more challenging during the winter months

She is deeply grateful to be under the care of one of Ottawa’s top hematologists.

In addition to conventional treatment, Dee will be working with holistic practitioners in Cornwall to help manage side effects and support her body as much as possible. These therapies include:

• IV vitamin therapy

• Nutritional supplements

• Hydrogen molecular alkaline water

• Castor oil packs

• Red light therapy

• Float therapy

• Mistletoe therapy

• Somatic release therapy

• Breathwork healing sessions

• Chemo-focused acupuncture

• Counseling and emotional support

After each treatment day, Dee spends the following days resting at home, taking anti-nausea medication, and allowing her body to recover.

Fertility preservation

One of the most meaningful goals is helping Dee preserve her fertility so that when she beats this, and we believe wholeheartedly that she will, she and her husband Eric can grow their family and eventually give their beloved dog Daisy a little sibling. She has worked with the Ottawa Fertility Clinic and currently has 11 embryos preserved!

If you’ve ever met Dee, you know she is the kind of person who changes people’s lives without even trying.

She adores her husband, Eric. She is obsessed with her dog, Daisy. She loves her family more than anything. And she is a devoted dental hygienist who will absolutely remind you to brush and floss.

She’s also traveled to Haiti twice to volunteer 12 hour days providing dental care to those in need. She often says it changed her life, but everyone knows she changed many lives too.

Everywhere she goes, people are drawn into her orbit laughing until their stomachs hurt, feeling valued, accepted, and heard. She makes strangers feel like old friends. She radiates sunshine, compassion, and joy.

She is pure love. Pure warmth. Pure light.
