Help Our Beloved Crew Member After Tragic Loss in Chapel Hill Flooding
This weekend, our Trader Joe’s family experienced an unimaginable loss. One of our most kind-hearted crew members, Daylon Duke, lost his beloved mother, Monica Butner, in the devastating flash floods that struck North Carolina. Monica went missing during the severe weather on Sunday, and tragically, was found the following day.
Monica was a caregiver, a source of strength, and the heart of her family. “She was the most giving person in the world,” says Daylon. “She would give the shirt off her back for someone, and that's why she was on the way to work [Sunday] night was to go make sure her little old people at the nursing home were being taken care of.”
Her sudden passing has left a deep void and a heavy burden on her son, who is now navigating funeral costs and the overwhelming weight of this tragedy.
Anyone who’s worked alongside him knows how much love and light he gives every single day. To his team, to customers, to his family. Now, it’s our turn to show that same love back.
We’re raising funds to help cover funeral expenses, grief support, and time needed to begin healing. Every donation, no matter the size, helps lighten the load during this painful time. We are collecting donations via Venmo through a close friend @BenjaminCamras.
Let’s come together for someone who’s always shown up for us.
We thank you sincerely for your generosity and compassion.
