Hello everyone,
As some of you may know, our brother David has recently been met with some serious health challenges. He is the most caring and loving brother, son, and husband. He is 32 years old and has been diagnosed with cancer, specifically stage 4 colon cancer that has metastasized. With no symptoms or signs of this diagnosis, our family is in shock and disbelief as we watch our healthy and lively brother be faced with a daunting path ahead. His wife Tina, who also beat lymphoma a few years ago, is our brother’s rock and is working hard to ensure he gets the best care, as she went through a similar battle less than 3 years ago. That being said, they are going to be facing some financial challenges as our brother starts his fight and beats this cancer. We are rallying around him and giving him the support needed, but are asking for your support and help ensuring he receives the best care possible.
Many of you may have gotten to know our family as “the light show people” over the last few Christmas seasons, and you know our David as Mr. Grinch, so we all thank you in advance for your support and outpouring of love. No matter how much you are able to donate, it will go towards ensuring our David’s comfort and that he receives the best care possible. We appreciate the love and kind words that many of you have shared to our family.
With gratitude,
The Loomis Family
A message from Dave-
“everyone, well this is going to suck to write.
On February 24th, I was diagnosed with stage 4 Colon Cancer.
I wanted to share my story and ask for prayer as I walk this journey.
I’ve been dealing with severe back pain since December. With the heavy snow we received this winter, we thought I had just strained my back from shoveling. Ive been in PT for weeks with no improvement.
On February 20th, I woke up in the middle of the night with severe right-side abdominal pain, so severe I couldn’t take a full breath. Tina called an ambulance and we were taken to Unity hospital.
The symptoms I was experiencing was an issue with my gallbladder the Unity team suggested. The team ran more bloodwork and an ultrasound and labs were concerning for a blood clot; but the ultrasound of my gallbladder seemed normal. The team suggested we do a chest CT to check for a blood clot, but something in Tinas gut told us we should do a CT of my lower abdomen as well to get a better visual of the gallbladder.
This is when our literal greatest fear became reality.
The doctor pulled up a chair to our hallway-side bed and told us that there was no blood clot, but they incidentally found a 5cm mass on the right side of my colon. They also incidentally found several lesions on my liver that were concerning for malignancy.
Our hearts shattered, and we were (and still are) in shock and disbelief. As many of you know, Tina went through her own stage 3 cancer diagnosis just 3 years ago. Hearing something like this (again) was, and still is, truly unimaginable. We felt like we were just getting back to normal, looking to start our family.
We spent the weekend in the ER, and on Sunday were moved to the GI floor to prep for a colonoscopy. The hospitalist requested we get a liver biopsy and an MRI to visualize my liver. Once again, Tina advocated to get an MRI of my spine in addition to my abdomen since I have been having so much pain
I completed all the biopsies and scans, and the MRI revealed what they believe to be a tumor on my L4 vertebrae, which explains the lower back pain.
On February 24th, they confirmed the diagnosis: colon cancer with metastatic disease to the liver and bone.
We spent a long week in the hospital with the best family and friend support we could ask for. We transferred care to Wilmot and are working on a treatment plan to kick this cancers ass!
Please keep me and our family in your prayers “
