Caring, funny, selfless, reliable ... these are just a few words I’ve heard over the years that describe Dan Murphy, or as many call him, Coach. Dan is a loving father, husband, grandfather, son, brother, and friend. I have known Dan to help others without question or hesitation and without an expectation of gaining something in return.
Dan has been dealt a hand that no one should ever have to experience. In the fall of 2018, he had some nosebleeds and chalked it up to sinuses. In January, after going to the emergency room for coughing up blood, Dan was diagnosed with aggressive lung cancer, stage lll, non small cell lung cancer adenocarcinoma. On February 4th, Dan underwent surgery to remove the lower lobe of his lung along with two lymph nodes. Results showed clean margins and gave Dan a renewed hope for recovery. After only a few days home from surgery, Dan ended up back in the ER with chest pain which was a result of blood clots.
Fast forward six weeks...
Dan begins experiencing issues with the function of his right leg which brings him back to the emergency room. After undergoing more tests, Dan is told the cancer spread to his brain. Dan had 10 whole brain radiation treatments during this hospital stay. In addition to the radiation, Dan has lost all right side functions. After spending some time in a transitional care center for intense rehabilitation, Dan decided he wanted to go home.
Dan’s wife, Jill, has exhausted her sick time and is without pay for any additional days she is absent to care for Dan or take him to medical appointments. Dan requires 24 hour care to support him with his daily living. Dan has always been there for others and now Dan needs us. I am asking if you feel called to donate, every dollar counts, it all adds up. Please lift Dan and his family in prayer, send your love, let him know your thinking about him.
