Hi my name is Samantha, I am fundraising to help support the cost of Damian being in the nicu. My story is a bit long so if you stay till the end, thank you! Most people know Damian’s dad is involved, but due to unfortunate circumstances cannot help support the cost of everything for the time being. So it’s up to me to figure this out. I am in the process of applying for assistance but in the meantime I just need a little help.
At the end of May I found out I was pregnant. Everything was going great pregnancy wise. No complications. 18 weeks came along and I was admitted into the humbodlt hospital for a huge gush of blood. I was falsely treated as the doctors said it was bacterial vaginosis and sent me along my way. At 21 weeks I had an even bigger gush of blood with some pretty intense pains. I was admitted to the Melfort hospital who then sent me to the Jim Patterson hospital in Saskatoon. My stay lasted almost a week. While there I learned I had placenta previa. Which in simpler terms my placenta was covering my cervix. That meant I would more then likely need a scheduled C-section at 34-37 weeks. The doctors discharged me as the bleeding stopped, and told me if it comes back then to go back. I had a doctor appointment on Oct 2 with my gyno. The appointment went well, she didn’t sense any further complications. But did however take me off work. Everything was fine until Oct 6, around 1230pm. I was making lunch and my water broke. At just 24 weeks. I was rushed to Saskatoon hospital again. They had a plan in place to keep baby inside of my for as long as possible while being monitored very carefully. But on Oct 7th at 4am I got up to use the washroom, and noticed the umbilical cord hanging outside of me. I was then immediately rushed into the OR for an emergency C-section. Damian was born at 24 weeks at 420am weighing only 1.3lbs. In just the short amount of time he has been in the nicu it has already been a rough journey. Everyday it’s new testing, monitoring, xrays, bloodwork, etc. For a little while he was jaundice, he has had a partially collapsed lung that is still recovering, and more. Damian has made it to day 3 and is such a strong little fighter. There is many details I have missed, but I’m sure by now you have a better understanding of the struggle it’s been.
I have been discharged from the hospital, and now have nowhere to go. My home is 2 hours away from Saskatoon and I do not plan to leave my baby’s side. I am also in the process of trying to find a home back in Saskatoon as that would be more convienient for my family. Damian will be in the nicu for a minimum of 3 months I’ve been told. Which means I need some sort of income during that time to cover food, bills, remaining baby items I haven’t been able to get yet, and more. I’m never one to ask for help like this, but I’ve exhausted all other options. So anything would be greatly apprieciated! If you have any further questions or want updates feel free to reach out to me. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts, Samantha, Dylan, and Damian
