Help Support Coopers Medical Bill (Addisons Disease)
Donation protected
My name is Tiana LaFollette! I'm a full-time student at Washington State University (WSU). I am majoring in Neuroscience/Psychology in the hopes of getting an MD/Ph.D! One thing about me is I love cats. One cat I especially love is my kitten Cooper! Cooper is a 6-month-old Black Domestic Shorthair with HUGE yellow/green/orange eyes. I recently adopted Cooper on the 5th of October. Cooper immediately lit up my life. Cooper has made me feel so loved and given me something to care for! Cooper is my registered ESA and has been by my side up until October 15th.
Sadly, on October 15th, I noticed Cooper was acting strange and wasn't eating or being social. So, I decided to take him to the Emergency Veterinary Teaching Hospital in Pullman (as it was 2 am). Upon arrival, Cooper was severely dehydrated, very weak, and his sodium levels were through the roof. The doctors had no idea what was wrong with Cooper and decided that it would be in the best consciousness to hold him overnight and monitor him. Over the week, Cooper got better but only due to constant fluids and pain medicine. Finally, today, October 18th, we were told that Cooper had been diagnosed with Addison's disease, which in cats is “also known as hypoadrenocorticism, a rare but serious kidney disease in cats that occurs when the adrenal glands don't produce enough steroids.” Addison's disease in cats has a rarity of “only about 50 cases recorded since it was first documented in 1983.”
As I am glad to finally figure out Cooper's illness, how I can treat it, and know he can live a good life, there is still one burden… the vet bill. As mentioned above, I am a full-time student already working three jobs to just support myself through college as a First Generation Student and just to support myself through life. So hearing that Cooper's bill would be around $7,000 was pure panic and shock. I, of course, said yes to all medical attention as this cat is my child and I love him with every part of my heart. But, I never anticipated/expected a charge of $7,000 out of the blue. This is where I am asking for help! If you have any support for Cooper and myself to pay his bill, anything would be appreciated. And even if you can't, just keeping Cooper in your everyday thoughts is enough. Thank you for taking the time to read Cooper’s story and thank you for considering donating <3.
