Show your Love and Support for Chris Vandergoot's Family

Chris Vandergoot unexpectedly passed away from an aortic dissection at just 48-years-old on Sunday, September 22, 2024, while attending a fisheries conference in Nova Scotia. It's not surprising that in his last moments of life he was joking and laughing with the doctors and nurses in the ER. He is survived by his wife (Ellyn) and three children Katelyn (23), Aaron (21), and Ada (19).

Professionally, Dr. Christopher Vandergoot was the director of the Great Lakes Acoustic Telemetry Observation System (GLATOS) since 2019. He began his journey from humble beginnings at a small community college in New Jersey and worked his way to earning his Ph.D. from Michigan State University. His innovative approach and contribution to the field of fisheries management has made global impacts and his research is highly valued by scientists and anglers alike. Great Lakes anglers distinctly know more about the fish that they chase because of the work that Dr. Vandergoot so passionately pursued.

Chris was highly dedicated to his profession and friends, but his greatest joy in life was his family and his faith. He was persistently involved in the lives of his children from serving on the board of education at Trinity Christian Academy (Norwalk, OH), to being their LOUDEST cheerleader at their sporting events, and sharing his love of the outdoors with them. His greatest love next to God was his beloved wife, Ellyn, of 26 years. Chris and Ellyn were part of planting a church (Firelands Grace OPC) in the Huron/Sandusky community where he faithfully served as an elder. They had a beautiful life.

Please help us honor Chris Vandergoot’s memory by supporting his family through their unexpected loss. Your contribution will help with funeral and medical expenses, college support for their two children at Grove City College (PA), as well as everyday living expenses for Ellyn.
