Help Support Chloe Kane-Willis’ Breast Cancer Treatment
We have currently met our goal and have paused donations. Thanks to everyone for your support!
Our beautiful, brilliant, deeply loving and joyous daughter, Chloe Kane-Willis, was recently diagnosed with breast cancer at just 28 years old. She’s a longtime highly empathetic nanny— someone who has devoted over a decade of her life to nurturing and loving other people’s children with extraordinary care, compassion and understanding.
Now, she needs our care.
Chloe’s diagnosis includes two tumor sites, and she’s chosen to undergo a double mastectomy and reconstruction to reduce the lifelong burden of ongoing screenings and fear. This isn’t just about the present — Chloe has a strong family history of aggressive breast cancers, including myself (her mom) and her paternal grandmother, who sadly passed from inflammatory triple-negative breast cancer.
As if this diagnosis weren’t enough, Chloe also lives with Ehlers Danlos Syndrome (EDS) a rare connective tissue disorder that affects her joints and healing. EDS increases the risk of complications after surgery, especially with wound healing — something I know all too well from my own experience.
We’re currently awaiting genetic testing results to determine if Chloe carries a BRCA mutation , which could influence future treatment and surveillance. But even without that information, her risk profile is high, and her decision to move forward with surgery is both brave and medically sound.
Chloe’s interests include making art (she’s currently working with oil paints but uses all types of media, including sculpture, resins and miniatures). She is also deeply interested in “play therapy,” building and using miniatures to help children express themselves. All of these pursuits will be helpful during her healing from surgery. If you are interested in sending her any of these items, don’t hesitate to reach out to me directly.
Why We’re Fundraising
Because our health care system is broken — and because we simply can't do this alone.
Chloe’s ACA insurance plan has an out-of-pocket maximum of $9,200. Hopefully she won’t reach that number, but she will have to pay at least $5,200 for her surgeries and reconstruction. As her mother, it pains me deeply to say this: I can’t afford to cover this for her. I’ve been unable to work since 2022 due to Long COVID (MECFS ) and being disabled myself.
We are asking for help — from family, friends, friends-of-friends, and even kind strangers — to keep Chloe from falling into debt just for seeking life-saving treatment. Chloe will not be able to work for at least 8 weeks after her surgery. Your donation, no matter the size, helps Chloe focus on healing rather than on bills.
If you’ve ever been impacted by my work, or if Chloe has touched your life with her kindness, humor, and open heart — this is the time to give back.
