Chief is the most calm and easy-going horse you could ever meet. The kids at the ranch adore him, and he has been a steady, gentle presence in every lesson. Recently, Chief was diagnosed with Cushing’s disease, and today he faced a life-threatening emergency that has left everyone at the barn deeply concerned.

This afternoon, Chief experienced severe respiratory distress. After being scoped by a vet, it was discovered that his airway was completely blocked. He required an emergency, makeshift tracheotomy on-site just to be able to breathe again. Unfortunately, the tube came out, and there was real concern that Chief could suffocate if it happened again during the night. To ensure his safety, Chief is being trailered to Becker Equine Hospital in Navasota, TX for a more secure breathing tube and further care. The emergency vet visit and procedure have already resulted in significant expenses, and ongoing care will add to these costs.
