Help Support Celia's Cancer Battle

Hello everyone, my name is Anette, I am Celia's oldest daughter. I am creating this GoFundMe account in hopes of raising funds for my mothers medical expenses.

My mom was diagnosed with breast cancer 9 years ago in 2014 at the very young age of 41 years old. I was 22 years old, my sister Sofia was 13 years old and my brother Freddie was 7 years old at the time we received the news. My mom was determined to beat cancer. She was very brave and rapidly began treating with the oncology team at Mayo Clinic in Phoenix, AZ without any hesitation. Within 8 weeks we all witnessed my mother's long black hair slowly thin and disappear as she received very strong doses of chemotherapy. Within the first year my mom had numerous surgeries including a double mastectomy, a breast reconstruction and many biopsies.

In October of 2015, we celebrated with so much joy as my mom had what we thought would be her final chemotherapy. On December 24th, 2015 my mother became ill once again and we received the hardest news right before Christmas Day - my mothers cancer had spread to her liver and the oncology team told us it was terminal cancer. We were told my mom would live 3 months to 2 years.

Yet again, my mom was resilient. She has always been bound and determined to beat cancer. She quickly began chemotherapy once again. Within a few months my mom began having neurological issues - we went in for a routine check up and were given a very hard pill to swallow - my moms cancer had spread to her brain.

Since 2014 my mom has gone to thousands of medical appointments, she has had 11 extensive surgeries including a 12 hour brain surgery in 2019 to radiate the tumors in her brain, and she has had multiple sessions of radition. To this day she spends every 3rd Friday at Mayo Hospital receiving a 3 hour intravenous chemotherapy. She has had over 120 chemotherapies and takes a daily dose of 6 oral chemotherapy pills a day.

Recently, my mother began having seizures causing the BIGGEST DECLINE in her health. Her brain tumors are in the part of the brain that control her movement. After so many years the doctors have found significant swelling in her brain that is causing the seizures. Currently, there are a lot of unknowns with my moms health. We are consulting and following up with her team of oncologists 2-3 times a week and they will help us find the correct treatment path for my mom within the next few months.

In the meantime, she has a long road to recovery to regain some of her movement. The treatment that she is on to help with the swelling of her brain causes significant swelling of the limbs and neuropathy in the thigh muscles making it very difficult for my mom to walk.

For all that know my mom, you know how amazing she is. She has worked as a hair dresser for over 30 years in Fountain Hills, AZ at the Hair Hut and Celia's Studio. She is very dedicated to her clients and loves her profession. Throughout my moms health journey she has NEVER stopped working - even when doctors ordered her to rest - she would still be there to "beautify" her clients as she says. Even to this day with her decline in health, she some how still finds the strength and energy to work 4-5 hours a few days a week.

I would really love to help relieve some of the financial burdens cancer has caused by raising funds for my moms medical expenses. As you can imagine, after almost 9 years of battling cancer, she has incurred a significant amount of medical bills. In addition to medical bills, my mother has always been self employed so she also has to cover her monthly health insurance premium in addition to out of pocket expenses, traveling expenses, copays and costs of living. My mom is running much slower throughout the years, especially now - it is becoming much more difficult for her to work. We all help her as much as we can, but when times are tough I have learned that it is okay to reach out for help.

I really appreciate each of you that took the time to read her story. My mother is an amazing person. She has taught us so much these last 9 years through her battle with cancer. She has never given up. She gets up every single day with a grateful heart. She wants nothing else but to live a healthy life. We recently celebrated her 50th birthday and we are very thankful for every single day we have with her.

100% of the donations will be going to my mom to help her cover her medical expenses. You can also feel free to send donations via the following methods:
