Help Support Carol in Her Battle for Health

Donation protected
Background:

My mom will turn 64 in January , and she's been facing health challenges for nearly a decade. The picture is of her in 2014 where at the age of 54, she experienced her first heart attack. This led to two stents being placed. Over the years, she continued to work part-time and manage her health, despite increasing complications. In 2019, her heart condition worsened, and she was transferred to heart specialists in Ottawa, 4 hours away from home. In 2020, she was diagnosed with congestive heart failure, and in 2021, she had a defibrillator implanted to help her heart function. Things were manageable until January 2024, when she experienced another heart failure episode, followed by tachycardia that took 2 months to stabilize. Her heart function declined significantly, and she was placed on the heart transplant list. But life threw another curveball. During the transplant screening process in May 2024, doctors discovered a mass on her breast. She had to undergo surgery for a mastectomy in September. Thankfully, the news was positive—no cancer was found beyond the breast tissue, and she is scheduled to begin radiation treatments in January 2025.

The Situation:

On January 16th, my mom and dad will need to relocate to Ottawa for 3 weeks while she undergoes daily radiation treatments at the hospital. This is needed to ensure the cancer is gone and she can be placed on the transplant list. She unfortunately needs to go to Ottawa to ensure her body can receive the radiation with no complications to her heart and this cannot be done locally. This is a stressful time for them both. My dad, who is 63, works two jobs to support their household, but he will need to take time off to be by her side. He has already used up all his paid leave during her surgeries earlier this year, and they’ve exhausted their savings. With no income during this time and the added costs of living away from home, including renting a place, food, parking, and fuel, they are facing a difficult financial situation.

How You Can Help:

This is where we need your support. Any donation, no matter how small, will go directly toward helping my mom and dad cover the expenses of their temporary move to Ottawa. The funds will go toward:
  • Short-term rental in Ottawa for 3-4 weeks
  • Fuel and transportation costs to and from the hospital
  • Food for both my parents and their two dogs
  • Parking at the hospital for daily treatments
Your kindness and generosity would mean the world to us, and any support you can provide will ease their burden during this incredibly challenging time.

Thank you for taking the time to read our story, and for any support you can offer. We are deeply grateful for the love, prayers, and contributions we receive.

With heartfelt thanks,
The Morin Family
