My dear friend Carly just had to have emergency open heart surgery on Friday morning, May 3rd. Thankfully, she pulled through and is in the early stages of recovery.

She had been having some concerning issues that landed her in the ER (twice!) where she spent entire days waiting, going through batteries of tests, and more waiting. She was referred to a cardiologist who tested her for an arterial blockage. He told her that if it looked like an artery was blocked he would probably have to put in a stent. Well, when she went in for the results he told her it was much worse than he thought, two arteries completely blocked, and she was admitted right then for emergency surgery the next morning!

Thankfully, she has a pretty good insurance policy that will cover most of her expenses. But there are costs not covered plus it will be at close to a couple of months before she can return to work. She doesn’t have any sick or vacation days to fall back on.
