Help us say a final farewell to Calvin O Chatfield

Hello everyone,

We are reaching out to you today with heavy hearts and hopeful spirits. Our beloved Calvin, a loving father, grandfather, brother, and friend, has been bravely battling stage 4 lung cancer and throat/thyroid cancer since January 2024. This news came only a month and a half after retiring and has been a devastating blow to our family, and the local draft horse community, but we are determined to support him through this challenging journey, and make sure he can have some time to enjoy his retirement/honey dues.

Calvin has always been the rock of our family. His kindness, generosity, and unwavering love has touched the lives of everyone who knows him. Whether it’s his warm smile, his wise advice, his endless support, or the hundreds of people he was blessed to assist while working at the sun valley stables, he has always been there for anyone in need. Now, it’s our turn to be there for him.

Calvin’s Journey:

January 2024: Calvin was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer and throat/thyroid cancer.

March 2024: He had his tonsils removed and biopsied.

April 2024: Calvin started treatments, including chemotherapy and radiation.

July 2024: Calvin was rushed to the E.R. in Twin Falls, Idaho. Due to the lack of equipment and expertise, he was transferred to Salt Lake City, Utah. There, doctors found the mass in his throat too complicated to trach, so they opted for a partial removal. The surgery went well, and Calvin was able to go home a few days later. He was put on a new treatment regimen.

August 2024: The new treatment seemed to be working, and the mass appeared to be shrinking.

September 2024: Unfortunately, the part of the mass that was previously removed grew back. Calvin underwent another surgery to remove it. Just a week later, he was rushed back to Salt Lake City due to rapid growth and difficulty breathing.

The road ahead is going to be tough, but we are ready to fight alongside him. However, the financial burden of cancer treatment is overwhelming. From medical bills to travel expenses for treatments, the costs are quickly adding up. This is why we are reaching out to our community for help,

We have set up this GoFundMe campaign to raise funds for Calvin’s treatment and to ease the financial strain on him and his wife, Edna. Every donation, no matter how small, will make a significant difference and will go directly towards his medical expenses (his medication co pay alone is over $3000/mo) and care, and anything else that will assist them through these challenging times.

We understand that times are tough for everyone, and we appreciate any support you can offer. If you are unable to donate, please consider sharing this campaign with your friends and family. Your prayers, positive thoughts, and words of encouragement are also greatly appreciated.

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your generosity and support. Together, we can help Calvin fight this battle and give him the strength to keep going.

With gratitude,

The Chatfield Family
