On March 30th, 2022, twenty-one-year-old Bryce Woolard was on his way home from an overtime shift at work when he was involved in a life-threatening motor vehicle accident. Bryce was critically injured when he was hit by a cement truck at an intersection, leaving him with multiple injuries. He was life-flighted to OSU Wexner Medical Center, where they determined he had two cervical spine fractures and a bleed in his brain. He was taken into emergency surgery to stop the free-flowing fluid in his abdomen and intubated on life-support. Unfortunately, the swelling in Bryce's brain continued, and he was placed in the Neuro Intensive Care Unit and medically sedated.

 

On Saturday, April 2nd, Bryce awoke from his medical sedation to the sound of his mother's voice. On Sunday, he was able to move his right hand and provide a thumbs up. While he is severely delayed in his responses, these are significant indications despite the doctor's original prognosis. Yesterday (April 4th), Bryce was extubated and taken off life-support. Unfortunately, he is still showing delays and currently has an NG tube in place, as he cannot swallow on his own.

 

Bryce's recovery will be extensive. The extent of the damage he may have to his brain or the long-term effects on his abilities due to the cervical fractures is unknown. The only "known" is that he has a long recovery and unsurmountable medical bills.
