Help support Bryan during this cancer fight

Donation protected
My twin brother, Bryan and his wife are in need of some help and support. Bryan has been living with Crohn’s disease for 30 years. After a recent flair up, it was discovered he was bleeding internally and needed 3 transfusions. This led to further testing which revealed a type of cancer called Adenocarcinoma stage 4 that has spread to his liver. He was going to meet with his oncologist tomorrow but Bryan had been running a temperature and they discovered an abscess that they are currently draining in his intestines that was causing excruciating pain. He may have to see the oncologist next week to get his treatment plan in place. They were planning on taking a long awaited honeymoon to Hawaii in late October. Due to Bryan’s diagnosis they are canceling that trip. Bryan needs a surgery for the Crohn’s disease but they are trying to hold off on that so we can start chemo right away. Otherwise, he would have to wait four weeks to start chemo. They need help financially for medical expenses including a deductible as well as help paying bills as Bryan will be missing work as he recovers. I know money is so tight now for so many of us but if you can help in any way it would bless them very much during this hard time. Bryan’s step dad is on hospice right now because of cancer so all of this has been such a shock and really hard to except. Please keep Bryan and Renee in your prayers. Thank you.

update:First and foremost, Renee and I are so thankful and amazed by the outpouring of prayers, love, support, offers for help/assistance, and donations that we have recieved. It truly is a blessing in our time of need.

I met with the Oncologist on September 10th, and it sounds like she has a few ideas for my treatment.

First, would be two diffrent chemotherapy regiments. One administered during a single session, and the other in a "backpack" I'll have to take home and it will slowly release over 3 days. Those treatments would be done every 2 weeks.

Second, is a possible surgery on my intestines where there is cancer, scar tissue from my old Crohn's surgery, and the abscess I currently have a drain placed for and am fighting of an infection from right now. Ideally they'd remove all the traces of cancer from this location, the abscess, as well as the scar tissue and any active Crohn's activity. This would be to prevent any future abscess in that location, and so I wouldn't think I'm having a Crohn's flare-up when it could be a blockage from a tumor.

This would not cure the cancer, just remove the threat from that location. I'll be meeting with a colo-rectal surgeon this week to discuss the options and the possibility of attaching a clean section of my colon with my small intestine to avoid an ostomy bag.

Third, my Oncologist wants a second opinion because apparently adenocarcinoma is a rare type of cancer that doesn't have much research on it yet. She has a team reaching out to the Mayo Clinic. Any treatment plans (including surgery) would be bounced off of them first before anything happens.

I'm still on antibiotics to fight off the infection from the abscess, and have and appointment next week to follow up with the infectious disease doctor to see how that is going.

I can't start chemotherapy until I'm off the antibiotics, but I could have surgery while I'm still on them. However, the surgery and recovery time would push back my chemotherapy start date even further.

As of now, I'm scheduled to have a port placed in my chest at the end of the week. The chemo meds I'll most likely be on cannot go into small veins, and the port would also allow for blood draws without having to put repeated stress on the veins in my arms.

There are some other therapies I'm looking into, like a vitamin & supplement regiment, and possibility a grounding & wavelength treatment if the chemo has to be pushed back further because of surgery.

Thanks again for all of the support you've shown to me and Renee! It's very much appreciated!

Warm regards,
Bryan Olson

Bryan hasn’t been able to work since August 22nd, and is still waiting on the short term disability/loss of time paperwork to clear. This will only cover a percentage of his income. They really need the help during this difficult time. Every dollar helps!!

Update 10/09/2025

Renee and I would again like to thank everyone for their prayers, kind words, helping out when we needed a hand, dropping off some food for us to eat, and for all of the donations that have been given. We truly appreciate it all more than words can say.

We were down at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester the last couple of days. Yesterday I had an MRI, some labs drawn, and a chest/abdomen/pelvis CT scan. Today I met with an Oncologist there to see what he had to say about a second opinion. I also had a consult with a liver surgeon scheduled for this coming Monday.

After looking over my MRI, the Oncologist and liver surgon agreed that I was not a candidate for liver surgery, so that monday appointment was canceled. The MRI is more detailed than a CT scan, and showed about 50 tumors in my liver (we were originally told about 5 - 10 ranging in size from a pea to a small marble). Now a lot of the ones the MRI picked up could be really small especially if they didn't show up on the other scans.

He agreed with my current Oncologist's treatment plan, so the Mayo Clinic will not be taking over my care. I'll stick with my current local Oncologist, and my chemo officially starts next Thursday (10/16/2025). I'm confident that the chemo will eradicate the smaller tumors in my liver in no time, and eventually get the rest of them, and the mass in my intestines as well.

Warm Regards,

Bryan and Renee Olson
