On July 5th, my brother-in-law, Berook Gebremeskel, was involved in a devastating car accident while working as a taxi driver. He was hit directly on the driver's side of his vehicle and had to be extracted from the wreckage. As of today, July 12th, he is still in the ICU with 10 broken ribs, a broken collarbone and his lungs have partially collapsed. As a self-employed individual without health insurance, the aftermath will be incredibly challenging for him.

The road ahead is long and challenging. Even after he leaves the hospital, he will require extensive medical care and rehabilitation. As a self-employed individual without insurance, the financial burden will be overwhelming for him.
