Greetings of peace (Salaam alaykum),
Our hearts are broken. We recently lost our beloved baby nephew, Barhama, during a family visit to Ghana. He was only two years old. A joyful, radiant soul, Barhama filled our lives with laughter, light, and love. Just two months ago, we were laughing with him, watching him grow, and celebrating each of his tiny teeth as they came in — never imagining it would be the last time we saw him.
While in Ghana, Barhama tragically choked. Because there was no emergency pediatric care nearby, he wasn’t able to get the help he needed in time.
The pain is unimaginable. His parents are living every parent’s worst nightmare, and his two older sisters, both under the age of 10, are still asking when their baby brother is coming home.
While nothing can ease the ache of losing him, we are committed to honoring Barhama’s life in a way that brings light to others. This fundraiser will serve two purposes:
- To support his grieving parents, who are facing unplanned funeral costs while still paying off medical bills from Barhama’s birth. His father, the family’s only income earner, had to drop everything to travel to Ghana.
- To begin building an emergency pediatric clinic in Barhama’s name, so that no other child is denied critical care, and no other family has to face what we did. This clinic will serve as ongoing charity (sadaqah jariyah) — a lasting impact in his honor.
