Help Support Baby Zion in his battle with RSV
Donation protected
Baby Zion has been in the hospital the last week battling RSV. He started showing respiratory issues and was taken to the hospital with after testing, was diagnosed with RSV. He was put on oxygen, bottle feeding as he wasn't strong enough to breast feed and antibiotics. After a day or two, the doctors thought he was improving so they started slowly weaning him off high flow oxygen over the course of several hours but once they went from 8 LPM to 5, he began declining quickly and his lungs were working extremely hard to breathe. They tried increasing his oxygen back up and moved to a bipap and albuterol to open his lungs but it was not successful. They had to retest his cO2 which showed back up to dangerous levels as well as an x-ray showing a collapse in his lung resulting is immediate sedation and implementing a breathing tube. The next day he was showing improvement by breathing over the ventilator so they weaned his oxygen and lowered the breathing rate - he still was tolerating it well. All his other vitals were also improving including no additional signs of infection. His chest x-ray was still looking about the same and the doctors explained that the mucus showing was common with RSV. They continued feeding him breast milk through the feeding tube but had to keep the catheter in to empty his bladder every 6 hours. The doctors felt ready to start weaning the pressure of the ventilator and if all goes well with the CPAP trials they would extubate. He went through a few different trials and passed so they removed the ventilator on Thursday. He was able to be snuggled by mom and dad and do some much needed skin to skin. As of this morning, Friday, Zion went from doing well to his cO2 levels rising again to a dangerous level and had to be put back on a breathing tube.
As we wait to see what these next few hours hold, please lift this family up in your prayers.
Katie and Luke have 2 other boys at home and miss their baby brother and Mama. To lift even just a little heaviness off of their hearts, please donate and share. We all know how much of a burden unforeseen hospital bills can be and I know it would mean so much to their family.
