Update from Frannie & Joe:

Welcome to the world, Sawyer Lee Clauson

On September 24th at 10:12am, we welcomed our sweet boy — 6 lbs 10.5 oz and 20.5 inches long. We couldn’t be more in love.

Shortly after coming home, we noticed some concerning signs and took Sawyer to the ER. After a series of tests, doctors discovered he was having seizures, some that were lasting upwards of 5 minutes. He was then transported to the Children’s NICU in Milwaukee. Sawyer spent over two weeks there, including time on a ventilator, while the amazing team worked tirelessly to find answers and the right treatment plan. While we don’t yet know the exact cause, we are incredibly grateful to share that he’s doing well and is now home.

These past few weeks have been the hardest of our lives, but also the most humbling. Joe and I are overwhelmed with gratitude for our family and friends — your love, prayers, and support carried us through a time we never could have prepared for. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you.

Last Wednesday, September 24, my sister Frannie and her husband Joe welcomed their beautiful baby boy, Sawyer Lee Clauson, into the world. The day after bringing him home, they noticed something wasn’t right. At only 3 days old, Sawyer began having seizures. He was quickly transferred from the Sheboygan ER to Children’s Hospital in Milwaukee for specialized care.

Doctors have ruled out several possible causes — no signs of infection, normal brain structure — which are blessings. However, the underlying cause of the seizures is still unknown. The medical team is working diligently to find answers, with genetic testing underway. In the meantime, the focus is on managing his seizures and keeping Sawyer stable.

Joe is currently on unpaid leave from work to be by Sawyer’s side, and with so much uncertainty ahead, it’s unclear how long he’ll be away. Any funds raised will go directly toward easing the financial burden from medical bills and lost income, so Frannie and Joe can focus entirely on their son.

Thankfully, they’ve been provided a room at the Ronald McDonald House, helping reduce travel and lodging costs.
