We, The Galley Hotel, Bar, & Restaurant staff are raising funds to support one of our work family members, Matty Thompson and her infant son Ethan. Ethan was born on Feb. 14th, 2024 at Avera Hospital in Aberdeen, SD. He weighed in at a 6lbs 8 oz.
On March 14th at Ethan's 1 month check-up the doctor noticed his breathing was abnormal and he had not gained any weight but lost weight, close to a pound. After performing an x-ray and ultrasound of his heart and lungs in Aberdeen it was determined that he needed specialty pediatric doctors and fast. He was then care flighted to Sioux Falls Avera Health. In Sioux Falls they performed multiple scans, tests, blood work, etc. trying to figure out if his condition was an infection or if it is a genetic abnormality since birth. The Sioux Falls hospital determined that he needed even more specialized care and transferred him to Omaha on Friday to have access to a team of doctors more specialized and equipped for babies and that had genetic specialists on staff.
Ethan currently has been diagnosed with pulmonary hypertension caused from his little heart overworking to try to keep his lungs functioning. They have also discovered a mass on his left lung which at this time it is uncertain when it formed or the significands of the mass and what that prognosis will entail. Ethan is currently at 5 lbs 9 oz. His body is working overtime trying to keep his heart and lungs functioning and is burning all his consumed calories. As of now there isn't a time frame on Ethans release or a real diagnosis.
Matty and her husband Nate also have 2 daughters, Payton 11 and Reagan 6. Nate has been traveling to and from Webster, Sioux Falls, and now Omaha when possible while trying to also work in order to provide for the family. Matty is a server and also works front desk at The Galley. She is currently on leave to care for her son during this difficult time. Nate works for POET ethanol plant in Groton. Payton & Reagen attend elementary school in Webster, SD. Ethan is the grandson of Pastor Lynn & Vinnie Lutz of Webster and Mike & Kim McCrellias of Roslyn.
The expenses for medical care, traveling, and lost work create a financial hardship for most families, this one included. We are trying to raise funds to lessen some of this burden so that they may focus on Ethan's care now and in the future.
Please donate if you can, share with your family and friends and help spread the word. We will keep you updated as we know more.
