Ashley Stamper needs a kidney.
Ashley was diagnosed with Type-1 diabetes when her pancreas stopped producing insulin at the age of 3 years old. She has spent the past 32 years managing her insulin and her diabetes. She pursued a degree in education with a focus on early childhood education and transitioned to helping her mother operate a daycare out of her mother's home. While working at the daycare, Ashley gave birth to three beautiful boys, Arden, Ander, and Alder. Her second-born, Ander, tragically passed away while still an infant. Today, Ashley lives with her firstborn, Arden (3), her rainbow baby Alder (1), and her husband Asher.
Three pregnancies and 32 years of diabetes later, Ashley's kidneys have quit on her. Ashley is currently on the UNOS transplant list, awaiting a matching donor. She has a wonderful team of doctors at the University of Washington working hard on her behalf.
The cost of the transplant itself should be covered by insurance, but the time, travel, and tertiary costs of increased utility bills for at-home treatment and the loss of wages are Ashley's to bear. We are estimating the cost of transportation before, during, and after the transplant to be $2,500. A single round trip to the hospital is 90 miles.
While Ashley has been waiting on the transplant list, she has been receiving dialysis treatment since November 2024, which has the bulk of the medical costs. While insurance is providing funds for treatment, as of January 2025, all of her treatment is now classified as out-of-network and we do not yet know how this will ultimately impact our expenses. Ashley has been trained and is currently administering home hemodialysis herself, which gives her some freedom and agency over her treatment, but comes at a small cost of water and electricity for her machines. Home treatment also affords her more time to be an amazing mom for her boys. We are estimating the cost to be close to $1,800 over 18 months of treatment.
We are starting this GoFundMe to help pay for transportation and treatment. As alluded to above, there are a plethora of costs we likely have not thought of or anticipated. We have estimated $4,300 in anticipated expenses and we have set our initial goal for about double that to account for these unknowns.
Thank you for taking the time to read our story and for any generosity you can provide.
God Bless,
The A-Team
