Hi it’s Ashley, your favorite under dog. I am in my senior year at California State University of San Bernardino. I will be graduating this May with my bachelor’s degree in social work.

This semester I am taking a Social Welfare of American Indian and Alaskan Native People course that has been eye opening to say the least. This is a social work elective course. I have the opportunity to travel to the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation in South Dakota and be of service to the reservation and Lakota tribe as well as get a rare chance to experience their culture first hand. This is an opportunity of a lifetime and to say I am excited to be going is an understatement.

I am a caregiver through In Home Support Services (IHSS) and they do not have paid vacation days or paid time off. The trip is 9 days. Since IHSS doesn’t have paid time off or paid vacation days I will be impacted financially while I am on this service learning trip. I created this gofund me to hopefully raise enough money to cover the 9 days I am gone.

I have navigated many personal hardships during my time at the university the past 2 years and have managed to get nothing less than an A- in my studies. I chose a photo of me and Buddy because he is the reason I started my educational journey. He is the reason when storm after storm hits in life I do not quit. I am a single mom raising my son the best I can. Any little bit helps and if you can’t donate please share the heck out of this.
