Asher's Army: His Fight Against Hepatoblastoma
Donation protected
On Monday, March 20th, Erika and AJ received news that no parent should ever hear- their sweet, beautiful nine-month-old son, Asher, had masses in his liver leading to a sudden and intense onslaught of symptoms and complications. After several days of testing the most wonderful baby boy was diagnosed with stage IV hepatoblastoma- an aggressive type of childhood liver cancer. Asher's cancer involves a very large tumor on his liver and several metastases in his lungs.
Erika and AJ have had their world obliterated with this news. Their lives have been tested in a way that is unimaginable and despite all of the unbearable pain, they are facing this head-on with unwavering grace, patience, love, and strength. There are no two parents more loving, devoted, and adoring and to say that having this happen to the Davis family is cruel and unfair would be the grossest understatement.
Asher's diagnosis is complex and stacked with challenges ahead. In the immediate future, we know that Asher is scheduled to receive three rounds of intensive chemotherapy, followed by an evaluation of the metastases as well as the liver function and viability. A liver transplant is a possibility if certain qualifications are met, although we are holding out hope that Asher's response to chemotherapy is strong and that resection surgeries are possibilities in the near future.
That being said Erika and AJ are not sure what costs might arise but understand that they will be significant. We know that extended time off from work will be necessary for both of them for at least the next year. New supplies and support items to help Asher stay safe and strong will certainly be necessary. Travel costs could add up significantly in the near future as they travel for appointments to specialty care as hepatoblastoma is a rare form of cancer.
Please help us fight for Asher Miles by supporting the Davis family.
