Hi everyone,
My name is Leah, and I’m reaching out on behalf of my mom, Anita, who was diagnosed with non-operable stage 3 adenocarcinoma non-small cell lung cancer in June of this year.
Anita is a loving mom who has spent her career helping others, working as a social worker, supporting children, families, and individuals overcome challenges. Now, she’s the one facing a challenge and needs our support.
Anita recently completed high-dose chemotherapy and radiation and showed a favourable response, and throughout it all showed incredible strength and resilience. But her journey isn’t over.
Because her cancer is driven by a rare EGFR gene mutation, Exon 18, which is most commonly seen in non-smokers, she is currently not eligible for the next stage of treatment —immunotherapy or targeted therapy, treatments that provide hope for many cancer patients. These therapies aren’t funded for people with this mutation.
To keep fighting, Anita has begun a naturopathic oncology treatment plan, which includes:
- High-dose IV vitamin C and Artesunate
- Hyperthermia therapy
- Specialized immune-supportive supplements
- Psychological support and counselling
These treatments cost over $4,000 per month, are not covered under provincial health, and insurance only covers $350/year.
All while managing this, Anita has returned to work, doing her best to balance self-care, healing, and the financial pressures that come with her treatments.
How You Can Help
We’re hoping to gather support to help cover the cost of her ongoing treatments. Your contribution will help:
- Cover naturopathic oncology treatments
- Support supplement and therapy costs
- Ease financial strain so she can better focus on healing and reducing stress
Any amount helps, even just sharing this page or offering emotional support means the world to us.
Thank you for reading and for supporting Anita in her fight.
With love and gratitude,
Leah and family
