On Tuesday, September 29, our brother, Andy was rushed to the hospital in Richmond, VA after a pop in the neck resulted in paralysis of his left leg and partial paralysis of his left arm. After being admitted into the Intensive Care Unit and undergoing multiple tests and scans, it was determined that Andy had suffered from an Arteriovenous Malformation (AVM) rupture causing a brain hematoma and stroke.
After a long week stay in the hospital, Andy was transferred to an Inpatient Rehabilitation Center last week. He will remain there for the next several weeks working to regain mobility on his left side and strengthen his brain from the trauma that ensued, in addition to occupational therapy. Next month, Andy will undergo Gamma Knife radiation to embolize the AVM with hopes that he can return home to continue his long road to recovery.
Doctors are optimistic but hesitant to promise complete recovery of mobility to his left side. This could leave him in a wheelchair or using an assisted walking device. Recovery will take quite some time but we all know that Andy is a fighter and will work tirelessly to learn to walk again! Please help Andy make this a reality by making a contribution to his success.
The healthcare, rehabilitation and long term costs will be extensive. We humbly ask for your donations and support during this time so that Andy and his wife, Lisa, may focus their complete attention on Andy's recovery.
Thank you for all of your support!
Organized by Andy's sisters, Jennifer Martin and Shannon Veale.
