Help Support Andrew’s Recovery After Devastating Work Injury

Donation protected
Hi everyone,

I’m reaching out with a heavy heart to ask for help for my husband, Andrew, who recently suffered a traumatic and life-altering injury while working.

Andrew is a Class A CDL truck driver and was injured on the job on Friday, May 23rd, while delivering freight to a ski resort in South Lake Tahoe. While inside the truck, a 1,600+ lb pallet on a pallet jack began rolling toward him. He tried to escape by jumping off the 5-foot high lift gate, but as he did, the pallet jack and the pallet came crashing down on his right ankle, pinning him to the lift gate. His left leg went off the gate, and on impact, all the ligaments in his left knee ruptured and tore. He was hanging by his crushed ankle, five feet in the air, for nearly two minutes before someone found him and called 911. With the help of others, they unpinned him and lowered him to the ground.

Andrew sustained a fractured right ankle that required emergency surgery to place plates and tension screws. His left knee has a ruptured ACL and MCL, and both menisci are torn. He is unable to stand, walk, or bear any weight on either leg. He will be undergoing another major surgery in about two weeks to repair the knee injuries.

As of today 5/30 we’ve been in the hospital for over a week in South Lake Tahoe and away from our family, and Andrew still cannot be released to come home. He will need to be transferred to a rehabilitation facility where he can receive physical and occupational therapy to learn how to move and care for himself without the use of his legs. We are still waiting on workers’ compensation to approve and arrange this care, which has delayed everything—including his discharge and recovery plan.

Doctors estimate he will be out of work for at least eight months. While we’re hoping to receive workers’ comp, it only pays around 60% of his normal wages—and we don’t yet know when the payments will begin. Unfortunately, that won’t be enough to cover our essential living expenses.

This GoFundMe is set up to help us with:
• Groceries
• Rent and utilities
• Uncovered medical costs
• Basic necessities while Andrew is unable to work

We are a proud, hard-working family, and asking for help is not easy. But we’re facing something we never could have prepared for, and right now, we simply can’t do this alone.

If you’re able to help in any way—whether through a donation, a share, or just words of encouragement—it would mean the world to us. Every dollar will go directly toward helping us stay afloat while Andrew focuses on healing and getting back on his feet—literally.

Thank you so much for taking the time to read our story.
With love and gratitude,
Stephanie
