Yesterday, Amy was admitted to the hospital as she begins another difficult chapter in her cancer journey. Four years ago, she bravely fought and overcame triple negative invasive ductal carcinoma through months of chemotherapy, major surgeries, and radiation.
Now, the cancer has returned and metastasized to her lungs and scalp. She is awaiting a lumbar puncture, PET scan, and lung biopsy to determine the extent of the spread and if it has spread anywhere else.
Meanwhile, her husband, Clay, is also battling cancer. Earlier this year, Clay was diagnosed with melanoma that had spread to his lymph nodes. He has been receiving immunotherapy treatments every three weeks in Birmingham, and a recent PET scan revealed another concerning spot that is now pending biopsy.
Together, Amy and Clay are fighting for their health while raising two children who need them more than ever. Both have dedicated their lives to serving others, Amy as a therapist supporting individuals and families, and Clay as a councilman working tirelessly for his community.
Now, it is our turn to serve them.
The financial burden of two simultaneous cancer battles is overwhelming. Between hospital stays, ongoing treatments, travel for specialized care, time away from work/inability to work due to extensive treatment, and countless unexpected expenses, the load is heavy.
This fundraiser has been created to help lighten that burden. Every donation, no matter how big or small, will go directly toward Amy and Clay’s medical costs, family needs, living expenses, and anything else to help as they walk this road together so they can be able to focus completely on getting better. If you prefer to help with meals, a meal train will be created once a treatment plan is in place.
Most of all, please cover this family in your prayers. Their strength is remarkable, but they can not face this alone. Let’s rally around the Carmichaels and show them that their community stands firmly with them.
For those who prefer direct support venmo: Ames-Carmichael
And once treatments begin, there will also be opportunities to help with meals for the family.
