Meet the newest addition to our family of rescue animals, Wika! She is a Gray-winged Trumpeter. This species is rare in lowland forest and is confined to the north side of the Amazon. Her name resembles one of the many unusual sounds she makes.
John was visiting a family in the village close to the NGO headquarters and was approached by this beautiful bird. They became instant friends. This rare jungle bird was being raised for food among the chickens. That is when we knew we had to save her! After arranging to buy her, we brought her to the Rio Momon Reserve.
Wika is very social and has become good friends with the other rescue animals, especially the rescue bulls Zeko and Cvetic . Because she was used to being raised with chickens, we also adopted a baby rooster named Petey to keep her company. They have become best buddies and search for insects together all over the reserve
