Yet, as the hours pass, the agonizing calls from the hospital remind us that this tragic nightmare is our new reality. On Saturday, July 11th, the Ayala family’s world was completely shattered by a devastating loss. Alberto Ayala—affectionately known to everyone as “Al”—may no longer be with us in body, but he lives on powerfully in the hearts of everyone he touched. Al was the true definition of a protector; he was his family's keeper. His deepest passion in life was simply being there for the people he loved, showing up in every way possible. Above all else, Al’s priority was being an extraordinary father. He excelled in every area of fatherhood, and he didn’t just stop at his own kids. He extended that fierce, unconditional love to his son's football teammates, treating them like his very own, and he never missed a moment to cheer on and interact with his daughter in her love for lacrosse. Al was also his mother’s right hand, a brother his siblings could always count on, and a loyal friend to so many who weren't even related by blood. Al was an incredible husband to his wife, his childhood sweetheart whom he had loved since the third grade.

Right now, she and their children are currently in the hospital recovering from injuries sustained in the accident—injuries that very nearly cost them their lives. As she fights to heal physically, she is also forced to navigate the unfathomable grief of losing her husband and soulmate. The loss of Alberto has left this beautiful family utterly devastated. On top of the crushing emotional pain of his absence, they are now facing the overwhelming financial burden of mounting medical bills and impending funeral expenses. Alberto’s family faces an incredibly uncertain future as they try to heal and rebuild their lives without their anchor.
