Help Support Al Boccella and Family

Dear Friends,

We are organizing this gofundme on behalf of our dear family friends who are facing an incredibly challenging and unexpected situation. On Monday, November 25, Al, a beloved father, husband, and friend, experienced a sudden medical emergency after waking from a nap. As he tried to stand, he collapsed and began showing signs of a stroke. He was immediately rushed to the hospital, where doctors discovered that he had suffered a rare and severe brain bleed caused by a cerebral venous sinus thrombosis (CVST)—a rare type of clot that only affects 5 in every million people. The clot caused significant hemorrhaging in his brain, leading to swelling and stroke-like symptoms.

Al and his family are now facing an incredibly critical and uncertain time, and they need our support more than ever. Below is an update on his condition and how you can help during this challenging period.

Thank you for your kindness, prayers, and generosity as they navigate this incredibly difficult journey.

Update:

On Monday, November 25, our dad suddenly experienced a medical emergency after waking from a nap. As he tried to stand, he collapsed and began showing signs of a stroke—unable to form sentences or follow commands. He was rushed to Mercy Gilbert Hospital and then transferred to St. Joseph's Hospital via life flight, where doctors diagnosed him with a rare and severe brain bleed caused by a cerebral venous sinus thrombosis (CVST).

At this time, Al's condition remains critical. He is unable to move the right side of his body and struggles to communicate, though he is able to understand some commands. He has been placed on life support as doctors are concerned about his ability to breathe on his own, and his condition fluctuates daily. Each small sign of improvement, such as him squeezing our hands or showing awareness, is a hopeful moment for the family. We are holding onto faith as we support Al through this incredibly difficult time, knowing that his journey will be long and uncertain.

How You Can Help:

This unexpected medical crisis has placed a heavy burden on our family, both emotionally and financially. Here are some of the challenges we’re facing:

- Hospital Visits: We’re traveling 45 minutes to an hour each day to visit dad in the ICU.
- Caregiving Responsibilities: Our mom, Heather, has not left Al’s side since the accident. She is the primary caregiver for both her elderly mother and our youngest sister, who recently underwent spinal surgery.
- Transportation Issues: Our family has only one working car to share between five people.
- Family Travel: The two eldest daughters, Avery and Bailey, are traveling back and forth from out of state to assist with their grandmother’s care and support their youngest sister Carmela’s recovery.

As we navigate this difficult time, we deeply appreciate all the prayers and support we’ve received. Any financial assistance to help cover travel costs, medical expenses, and caregiving needs would be a tremendous help. Thank you for being part of our journey.

We’re grateful for every day Al is still with us, and we remain hopeful, trusting that each step forward, no matter how small, brings us closer to healing.
