Help Support Aidan's Recovery From Covid
Donation protected
This is Aidan, 16, of Corpus Christi, Texas.
In August, after school started, Aidan caught what was considered to be a mild case of COVID. He was cleared to go back to school and work September 1. By September 7, Aidan began to develop numbness and other symptoms from the waist down. Days later, he could no longer feel or use his lower body, which had turned purple. Aidan was admitted into the ICU at Driscoll Children’s Hospital where it was discovered he had brain and spinal chord lesions as a result of his COVID infection.
Thankfully, within a week, Aidan was able to move his legs a very small amount (no small miracle!). He has now been in Driscoll for three weeks. Some of his bodily systems, such as his bladder, have not come back “online.” He has had to undergo procedures that include cleaning out his plasma just so his immune system could fight. His Doctors have said it may take him up to a year to fully recover. He cannot stand or walk on his own. His Neurological Doctors have said he cannot return to school for at least 4 months.
In spite of everything that has happened to him, Aidan is determined to walk again, and be the active, carefree teenager he was before! However, Aidan’s Mom, Carolyn, is a single mom with a mortgage and a demanding job. She has been with Aidan from day one, but has lost time at work. The medical bills are skyrocketing, and are not covered by insurance. She does not qualify for government services nor does she receive child support. In addition to bills, Carolyn has been told she must re-do the bathroom in her home to accommodate Aidan as he now has equipment and access needs.
We, friends of Carolyn, are starting this fund to gather money to help her take care of Aidan, her home, her bills, make the necessary bathroom changes, and anything that could go toward these overwhelming medical bills. Any little bit helps, and we thank you ahead of time for your support of Aidan and Carolyn as they fight to overcome this devastating illness.
We also ask for your continued prayers for his healing and recovery. Thank you so much.
