Help Support Abbie Driver Files' Lymphoma Battle

On June 12, 2020, Abbie was diagnosed with stage 2 Nodular Sclerosis Classic Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. For anyone, this would be scary and unexpected news, and for Abbie and Zach this was even more surprising and difficult since they were only three months into marriage. Cancer is difficult no matter the circumstances, and they have already been through so much this year. They had to cancel both their dream wedding and honeymoon due to COVID-19 social distancing requirements & gathering restrictions. Now, they’ve had to put their summer plans like adopting a dog and going on a short beach vacation on hold because of the massive expenses of cancer treatment.
Even with insurance, Abbie’s out of pocket medical expenses (2 CT scans, a PET scan, numerous blood labs, a biopsy, specialist visits, etc.) have already reached $8,000, and she hasn’t even begun chemotherapy yet. She will need a minimum of 3-4 rounds of chemo, along with at least one more PET scan, not to mention continued doctor visits, blood work, and other medical care.
In a way, it was a blessing that Abbie and Zach’s honeymoon was canceled due to COVID-19, because they were able to use the $2,200 they had saved for their trip to almost completely cover the cost of her biopsy. During Abbie’s biopsy surgery they joked that it was their honeymoon since they paid for it with that money, but that was in no way how they envisioned their “honeymoon” going! While a honeymoon is certainly not a necessity, it is something they were looking forward to, and I would love to help that still happen for them at some point in the future.
For those who don’t personally know Abbie - she is an English teacher at Carrollton High School and goes above & beyond in all aspects of her job. Teachers like Abbie have worked so hard this year to support and care for our students. I witnessed her work hours on end, calling parents, checking on students, even when she was exhausted (she had cancer at the time but did not know it). Would you please join me in giving back to my personal favorite teacher who really could use some love and financial support right now?
I have set the goal for this Go Fund me at $15,000: That is $8,000 for their current medical bills, $2,200 to help them recover their honeymoon fund, and $4,800 in anticipation of future medical bills. They specifically asked that the goal not be set any higher for now since they don’t want to take money they aren’t certain they will need. If you’re able to give, I would appreciate it so much, and if you cannot help financially, please consider sharing this so more people can help! Above all, we ask for your continued prayers for both Abbie and Zach.
